A man apparently fatally shot his wife before killing himself at a Gwinnett County apartment complex Saturday, police said.

The incident was at the Sugar Mill Apartment Homes in the 800 block of Walther Boulevard near Lawrenceville, police spokesman David Smith said.

The man was identified as Kalvin Wright, 48, of Albany, police said later Saturday. The woman was 33-year-old Gentorica Wright.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., three children were dropped off at the complex leasing office, according to Smith.

“The children told staff their father had shot their mother inside their apartment,” Smith said. “Leasing office staff then called 911.”

The man returned to the apartment. Due to a possible situation with a barricaded gunman, police called in the SWAT team.

When SWAT officers arrived, they went into the apartment due to the unknown situation with the woman, police said.

“After making entry, they located the male suspect and female victim deceased with apparent gunshot wounds,” Smith said.

The children, all under 10, were in the apartment at the time the woman was shot, police said. They are with family members.

There was no recent history of officer involvement at the address, Smith said. The incident is under investigation.
