Two suspects were arrested Tuesday in the shooting death of a retired Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputy.

Felix Cosme, 63, was killed Jan. 8 during an attempted armed robbery at an O’Reilly Auto Parts store on Hamilton Mill Road. Cosme worked at the store after retiring from the sheriff’s office, where he served as a sergeant in jail administration.

According to the agency, Cosme was reaching for his gun in an attempt to protect his female coworker when he was shot.

On Tuesday, investigators identified 25-year-old Tavares Norah and 27-year-old Prince Robertson as suspects in his death. The two were also wanted in connection with an armed robbery Monday night at a Dacula Auto Zone, Gwinnett County police said.

Norah turned himself in Tuesday morning at the Gwinnett County jail. Robertson was apprehended about 3 p.m. after a tipster spotted him along Old Peachtree and Old Fountain roads, police said.

According to police, officers were called to the auto parts store on Dacula Road about 9 p.m. Monday to investigate the robbery.

“The employees told the responding officers that a black male entered the store and demanded the store’s cash while pointing a gun at them,” police said in a news release. “He fled the store in a black vehicle.”

The vehicle later crashed about three miles from the Auto Zone along La Maison Drive, according to police. The incident set off a large manhunt in the area, and residents were asked to stay indoors and report any suspicious activity.

“Detectives and officers determined that the two suspects who fled the vehicle were the same suspects from the homicide at the O’Reilly’s,” police said. “After an exhaustive search that spanned several hours, the suspects were not found.”

The FBI had previously announced a $15,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
