A man was shot and killed by an officer Wednesday afternoon after Peachtree City police responded to a domestic dispute call, officials said.

About 3:30 p.m. Thursday, police went to a home on Gelding Garth Road where William Dean had been involved in a physical dispute with his son, Peachtree City police Chief Janet Moon said at a news conference.

Dean, 67, pulled out a shotgun and fired at Sgt. James Harris and Officer Darrell Davis, police said. Moon said Harris fired his patrol rifle, killing Dean.

The officers and Dean’s son were not injured.

Authorities had served a search warrant at the home earlier in the day, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The GBI is investigating the shooting. Through March, the GBI handled 24 officer-involved shooting investigations.

No other details were released.
