A man was shot and killed after he tried to evade police at a Cobb County motel and dragged an officer in a car Tuesday, police said.
The officer-involved shooting occurred at the Guest Inn on South Service Drive in Austell. The location is near Six Flags over Georgia.
Officers were patrolling the area when they found a door open to one of the hotel rooms with “visible illegal drug activity,” Cobb police Sgt. Wayne Delk said.
“One suspect fought past officers and made his way into a vehicle, where he continued to struggle with officers and started to drive away,” Delk said.
One of the officers, who was caught hanging out of the moving car, fired a shot that struck the man, authorities said.
The man, identified by the GBI as 25-year-old Sanchez Lowe, died at the scene. The Cobb County medical examiner is conducting the autopsy, the GBI confirmed.
Two officers were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital, the GBI said. Delk said one of the officers was hurt when Lowe’s car “was traveling through the parking lot and over the curb into a wooded area.”
The GBI searched the room and found suspected marijuana and two handguns, spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.
