Atlanta police have made an arrest in one of three deadly shooting investigations after a violent Thursday night in northwest Atlanta.
Treymayne Smith was arrested Friday in connection with death of 17-year-old Trayvon Muhammad, the first of three people killed in the area in a span of about four hours.
“During the course of the interview,” Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said, “investigators determined there was probable cause to charge Mr. Smith with murder and with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.”
Smith, 36, was booked into Fulton County Jail.
Muhammad was shot in the chest and leg about 8 p.m. at the Sierra Ridge apartments in the 3000 block of Delmar Lane, Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer Stephanie Brown said.
He died at a local hospital from his injuries.
Police have not discussed what prompted the shooting or two others.
About 11 p.m., 30-year-old Deonta Wallace of Atlanta was shot in the parking lot of the Verbena Garden apartments. Responding officers found the man dead between two cars.

Then, just before midnight, a man was fatally shot on the front porch of a home in the 600 block of Simmons Street.

The crime scenes stretch from Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard to Hollowell Parkway.
“Gun violence in our communities is deeply concerning and three shooting deaths in such a short period of time is unacceptable,” police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Bender told AJC.com. “There is no indication that these shootings are related, rather they appear to be independent acts of violence. Our homicide investigators are among the best in the business and we are confident that they will identify the offenders and get them off the streets.”
Chafee said investigations into all three incidents continue, and investigators remain committed to “finding all who are responsible for these deaths.”
