Some witnesses at the scene helped officers capture the suspect in a deadly DeKalb County shooting at Glenwood and Candler roads, police said Wednesday.
After the shooting, which happened about 11:45 a.m, the suspect drove away from the scene but was followed by some concerned people who saw the incident, DeKalb police Lt. Lonzy Robertson said.
“(Atlanta police were) able to coordinate with them and get the truck stopped on Tuskegee Street in Atlanta,” Robertson said. “He was taken into custody during the traffic stop.”
The suspect was identified as Rico King, 42, Robertson said Friday. He has been charged with murder and is in custody.
Earlier, DeKalb police blocked off parts of the road where the 29-year-old victim was gunned down. He was identified as Michael Brooks of Atlanta by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s office.
Brooks was standing in a restaurant parking lot near the intersection, police said. The suspect pulled into the lot and began firing.
“The victim attempted to run and was hit by gunfire in the street,” Robertson said. “The suspect followed the victim and continued to fire while he was down.”
