The body was found after someone called 911 and reported a burning car.

Authorities in Paulding County are investigating after a body was found inside a burning car Monday.

Deputies and firefighters made the discovery just before 1 p.m. after someone called 911 and reported a car fire, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Tyler McSwain.

When officials extinguished the burning car in the 2100 block of Vinson Mountain Crossing in Rockmart, they found a body inside.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident as a murder and arson, McSwain said.

Officials did not provide details on why investigators classified the case as a murder.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the GBI are aiding the Paulding sheriff’s office in the investigation. The victim’s remains were sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Details about the victim and those involved in the arson and murder were not released. The investigation is ongoing.
