UPDATE [8:12 a.m.]: A young boy found naked and walking alone near Athens on Friday morning has been identified.
The child’s grandfather has been in contact with authorities, according to the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office. The boy was supervised by a sister but left his home while she was still asleep, deputies said on Facebook.
“Thanks for all of the fast responses that helped us get in touch with the family,” the post said.
ORIGINAL STORY: Authorities are asking for the public's help to identify a young boy found naked and walking alone near Athens on Friday morning.
The boy was discovered along Hargove Lake Road near Beaverdam Road in a rural part of Oglethorpe County. He is unable to speak many words and is unable to tell deputies who he is or where he lives, the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.
Anyone who recognizes the child is asked to call 911.
