Atlanta police have arrested a woman in connection with a shooting that seriously injured a Clark Atlanta University student in September as she drove near the campus.
Gabrielle S. Burnett, 19, surrendered Oct. 24 after police secured warrants, Officer Lisa Bender said Friday.
“Further investigation revealed that the victim had a brief encounter with the suspect prior to the shooting,” which occurred about 12:20 a.m. Sept. 25, Bender said. The incident happened in the 1000 block of Lucile Avenue in southwest Atlanta.

The victim, 19-year-old Daeja Craddick, was shot once in the back, causing her to lose control of the car. She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Craddick was paralyzed after the bullet went through the driver’s side door, hit her in the back and lodged near her spine, AJC.com previously reported.

She told investigators she was on her way to pick up her boyfriend when another woman shot her.
Burnett was booked in the Fulton County Jail on Oct. 25 on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She was released on bond Oct. 28, Fulton County sheriff’s spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said.
Burnett is scheduled to appear in court at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.
