One month after a teen couple was found dead about 200 yards apart from each other in a Gwinnett County subdivision, police said they have made an arrest in the case.

Quintavious Walker, 17, of Tucker, has been charged in the shooting deaths of Jaquille Thomas and Angelique Bowman,” Gwinnett police Cpl. Deon Washington said Thursday.

“Walker provided a statement to police that helped to solidify the investigation,” he said. “The specifics of why the murders happened are still being investigated. There are no additional suspects being sought in this investigation.”

Thomas, 18, and Bowman, 19, both of Stone Mountain, were found dead Jan. 25.

Surveyors working in the area told police they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds between two homes in the 6000 block of Wandering Way, Washington said. Officers went to the scene about 9 a.m. While investigating the incident, a second caller told Gwinnett police a theft had occurred at a subdivision clubhouse in the area.

As police investigated the theft, they found the woman later identified as Bowman suffering from gunshot wounds in an SUV, Washington said.

Thomas and Bowman were both supposed to start college Jan. 26, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Instead, their loved ones gathered Jan. 27 for a candlelight vigil.

“That was my baby,” Thomas’ grandfather, Gean Harden, told Channel 2 Action News. “I’m just hurt. I’m tore to pieces, man. It’s like my heart…that was my heart man.”

Walker is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center on multiple charges, including one count of malice murder, two counts of felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
