A 14-year-old DeKalb County boy was arrested Sunday after accidentally shooting his 16-year-old friend in the face.
The boy was with two friends in the basement of his Post Road home in the Mainstreet community when the shot went off. His friends were playing video games, and he was playing with a gun, according to a police report obtained by AJC.com.
The bullet went through the 16-year-old boy’s mouth on the right side and exited the left side of his neck, an officer said in the report. He initially told police he thought a stray bullet came crashing through the home, but the officer found no bullet holes in any walls or windows.
The third boy told the officer he saw the 14-year-old trying to cock the weapon before he heard a gunshot, according to the report.
The victim, identified by police as Tariq Thomas, was being treated for serious injuries Monday at a hospital.
The 14-year-old suspect was released to his mother on charges of reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a minor. The weapon was determined to be stolen out of DeKalb County, according to police.
