Atlanta police have identified a man accused of robbing a Beltline jogger at gunpoint on Memorial Day, but they still need help finding him.
“Investigators secured a warrant, charging the suspect with armed robbery,” agency spokesman Sgt. John Chafee said Friday morning in a statement.
Police have not released the man’s name.
Authorities made positive identification less than 24 hours after they shared surveillance images of the man Thursday.
Cameras along the path captured the robbery, which occurred about 7 p.m. Monday as the woman was jogging in the 1100 block of Harwell Street, which is near Washington Park, according to a police incident report obtained by AJC.com.
“There’s a couple of spots on the Beltline that gets really deserted, especially on a holiday,” the woman, who asked Channel 2 Action News to remain anonymous, said.
Before the robbery, she said she noticed a man trying to speak to her, but she ignored him and kept jogging, the report said. However, then she felt a tap on her shoulder.

“I turned around and he had a gun out,” the woman told Channel 2. “I don’t even know if he even said anything. I just said, ‘What do you want?’”
She gave the gunman her phone and her pouch containing items such as money and her keys, the report said. After he ran off, she found a resident who called 911 for her.
Police were able to recover her pouch and car keys in a nearby bush, but her phone remains missing, the report said.
She described the man as dark-skinned with dreadlocks, about 5-foot-10 and 150 to 160 pounds.
