Two men have been captured after authorities say they led a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy on a chase Tuesday night and shot at a patrol car while speeding on I-75 South.

Eugene Coreyl Wilson of Covington and Justin Michael Donley of Rockmart each face multiple charges in connection with the incident, which started about 7:50 p.m. when the deputy attempted to stop a 2013 Lincoln sedan for speeding.

Instead of pulling over near mile marker 191, the driver, later identified as Wilson, kept going, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anna Lewis said Wednesday in a news release.

The deputy chased the Lincoln and tried to position the patrol car to disable the fleeing vehicle, commonly known as a PIT maneuver, according to the sheriff’s office.

As the deputy began to move in near mile marker 184, investigators believe Donley leaned out of the passenger side and fired three shots at the patrol car, Lewis said. One of those shots hit the front passenger headlight.

The Lincoln kept going and exited at a rest stop, where Wilson lost control and crashed into trees, according to officials. The men took off running in separate directions, leaving behind 5.1 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, 1.3 ounces of suspected cocaine, multiple bags, a black scale and a gun, Lewis said.

The search for Wilson wrapped about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Pea Ridge Road and U.S. 41 with the help of multiple agencies, including the GBI and the U.S. Marshals Service. He was armed with a gun, Lewis said.

Authorities did not find Donley, however, until 8:20 a.m. near Jenkins and Rumble roads.

Both men were booked into the Monroe County Jail on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of drug-related objects and violating Georgia’s statute on controlled substances.

Wilson faces additional charges of fleeing/attempt to elude an officer, driving without a license, reckless driving and speeding.

Authorities tacked on two firearms possession charges against Donley, who is a felon, Lewis said.
