An Austell man was killed Tuesday afternoon when he collided with a car that turned in front of his motorcycle, Cobb County police said.

Lawrence Peters, 26, was riding his Suzuki GSX-R south on Austell Road about 5:15 p.m. when a black Nissan Sentra traveling north turned left toward Seayes Road, Cobb police spokeswoman Officer Sydney Melton said.

The motorcycle collided with the Nissan, causing the car to roll over, police said. Peters came off his bike in the wreck and “stayed in contact” with the Nissan as it toppled, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, identified as 41-year-old Melissa Youngblood of Lithia Springs, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. She is expected to survive.

Police said the speed of the motorcycle contributed to the fatal crash.

The wreck remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Cobb police at 770-6909-3987.
