Reese Witherspoon, who has been in Atlanta for weeks filming a movie called “The Good Lie,” was arrested along with her husband James Toth in the wee hours of Friday morning following a traffic stop in Atlanta. The Georgia State Patrol handled the incident.
The Associated Press cited Georgia State Patrol documents in reporting that “a trooper patrolling Peachtree Street noticed a Ford Fusion driving erratically and pulled it over at a Walgreens near Delmont Road.”
While the trooper questioned Toth, who had been driving, Witherspoon got out of the car.
“Witherspoon disobeyed multiple orders to stay in the car while he performed a field sobriety test on Toth,” according to the report. “After she refused to return (to) the car, she was handcuffed and arrested.”
The incident report further states that Witherspoon asked, “Do you know who I am?’”
Variety, which broke the news Sunday afternoon, reports that Toth faces a DUI charge while Witherspoon was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge.
Witherspoon’s publicist has not yet commented and on Sunday the actress was in New York for the premiere of “Mud,” coming out April 26.
Witherspoon has a Twitter account but has not posted anything in several days. On Monday, the day of the Boston Marathon bombings, she tweeted a photo of herself holding a sign that says, “I demand action to end gun violence” and added a note that read, “It’s time for change.”
“The Good Lie” has been filming at locations including Sugarloaf Mills Mall and Peachtree Baptist Church. Filming took place Friday and Saturday downtown, apparently unimpeded by the incident.
