Atlanta police are investigating a crime spree that stretched across two counties, injured three people and left a $136,000 BMW riddled with bullets.

The incident began about 2 a.m. Tuesday when a taxi driver was carjacked and shot in the mouth at a Pilot gas station off of Bouldercrest Road in DeKalb County, Atlanta police Capt. Clif Johnson said.

Two men took the taxi and “traveled to Atlanta to commit additional robberies and carjackings,” police spokesman Donald Hannah said.

About 4:30 a.m., the stolen taxi rammed a BMW in the 1600 block of James Jackson Parkway in northwest Atlanta, according to police.

The woman driving the BMW eventually pulled over and got out of the car, Johnson said.

“The suspects in the (taxicab) begin firing at her multiple times,” he said.

She ran into nearby woods and escaped without injury.

Ten to 15 minutes later, dispatchers got a call that someone opened fire on another vehicle and shot that driver multiple times, this time on nearby Peyton Road. Another man, one of two men wanted in connection with the carjacking and the shooting spree, was also shot, police said.

Officers are waiting to interview him. He, the wounded driver from the Peyton Road scene and the taxi driver were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. The drivers were listed in critical but stable condition, Hannah said. The man allegedly involved in the crime spree was in stable condition at Grady.

“This is still very fluid,” Johnson said. “We’re still trying to get stories from multiple scenes.”
