A 12th prison inmate has died from the coronavirus, the Georgia Department of Corrections said Monday.

The 54-year-old inmate, whose name was not released, was an inmate at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson and had underlying medical conditions, the DOC said. The prisoner had been a patient at a Griffin hospital, but died Sunday night.

The latest death is the third from the GDC prison. And the inmate was the second to die Sunday from the virus, which has been confirmed in every Georgia prison, according to the DOC.

Around 2:20 a.m., a 74-year-old inmate died at a Savannah hospital. That inmate, who had been housed at Coastal State Prison in Garden City, also had underlying conditions. Three Coastal State inmates have died from the coronavirus.

Statewide, 349 inmates and 134 prison employees have tested positive for the virus. One prison employee has died from COVID-19, according to the DOC.

Autry State Prison in Pelham has reported the most cases with 67 inmates and nine employees testing positive, according to the DOC.
