Tomisha Brock is making history as the first woman to serve as band director at Clark Atlanta University.
Brock, who previously served as associate director of bands and an assistant director at Mississippi Valley State University, is also the first woman band director int he Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
At CAU, Brock will also serve as an assistant professor of music.

“In a male dominated profession, it is a privilege for female directors to show that we are just as qualified, we can compete and produce on a large scale, as with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs),” she said in a release.

The 35-year-old Brock said her goal was to provide "holistic education through music, as well as excitement, creativity, and revitalization to the CAU band program.”
She will lead the Mighty Marching Panther Band.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Virginia State University; a master’s degree from Norfolk State University; and a doctorate degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
