Home Depot has deployed on-demand delivery for some time. Now the home improvement giant is expanding its capabilities nationwide, adding the popular Uber Eats and DoorDash apps as delivery providers.
Vinings-based Home Depot said starting Wednesday customers can order select goods via Uber Eats and DoorDash — using the same services to have delivered a power saw or two-by-fours as they might a burrito.
Home Depot is no stranger to e-commerce with an extensive online shopping portal, HomeDepot.com. The company also includes among its delivery partners the popular shopping service Instacart and Roadie.
Home Depot for years has worked to fend off online competitors, such as Amazon, with what many in the industry call omni-channel sales — or serving the customer seamlessly in person and online via computers and mobile devices.
Home Depot’s menu of delivery options includes free next-day delivery, same day delivery via its website for thousands of products and on-demand delivery in as little as one hour via Instacart, Uber Eats and DoorDash.
“We’ve never been faster or more efficient at delivering the products our customers need through HomeDepot.com,” Jordan Broggi, Home Depot’s executive vice president of customer experience and president of online, said in a news release. “Our expanded e-commerce capabilities make it easier than ever to shop and receive your order when and where you need it.”
Home Depot has more than 2,300 stores across North America. The company said customers can browse the inventories of its more than 2,000 U.S. stores via Uber Eats and DoorDash for on-demand or scheduled deliveries.
Home Depot spokesperson George Lane declined to offer specific information about customer adoption of on-demand or demographic details about the customers using its existing on-demand options, such as Instacart, which launched in May.
“While I can’t share specifics on adoption, feedback from our customers around the country has been positive and we’re excited about what this offering brings to them in terms of speed and flexibility,” he said in an email.
