A day after a golf pro at a Kennesaw-area country club was shot and killed on the course Saturday afternoon, authorities revealed they also are investigating two other deaths related to the incident.
The shooter has not been identified and remained at large Monday morning, Cobb County police said.
Cobb County police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Saturday they were investigating the deadly shooting, which occurred sometime before 2:30 p.m. at Pinetree Country Club.
On arrival, officers located a man, identified as golf pro Gene Siller, 46, unresponsive on the green of the 10th hole with an apparent gunshot wound to the head, agency spokeswoman Officer Shenise Barner said in an email Sunday evening. Siller was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A white Ram 3500 pickup truck was also located on the green, police said. Upon further investigation, two other deceased males were discovered in the bed of the pickup truck. Both males suffered apparent gunshot wounds. One of them was identified as 76-year-old Paul Pierson, the registered owner of the Ram 3500. The other male has not yet been identified, Barner said Sunday.
Barner provided no additional updates in a Monday morning email.
On Saturday, the golf pro was identified as Siller by both an employee reached by the AJC and the two of the state’s top golf organizations.
“All of us at the GSGA are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred early today at Pinetree CC,” the Georgia State Golf Association said in a tweet. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Gene Siller’s family and friends.”
The Georgia PGA also issued a statement Saturday night expressing the organization’s condolences.
“Tragedy has stricken the Georgia Section PGA in the loss of our Member, Gene Siller,” they said shortly after 9:30 p.m. “Thoughts and prayers for his family and the Pinetree Country Club family.”
The country club is located along McCollum Parkway near Kennesaw State University’s main campus.
KSU officials sent out an emergency alert about 3 p.m. alerting students and faculty about the shooting nearby. The golf course is also used by the university’s men and women’s golf teams.
Police have not said what led to the deadly shooting, but several people told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution it appeared the gunman’s truck got stuck near the 10th green after he drove onto the course from an adjacent neighborhood.
Siller was shot when he went onto the course to investigate, they said.
“He was a great boss and an even better man,” said a country club employee who asked not to be identified.
In a tweet, KSU Emergency Management said the “armed and dangerous” man was last seen on Club Drive headed toward Shiloh Road. Officials said he is about about 6-foot-1 with long hair and was last seen wearing a white or tan shirt and dark-colored work pants.
The university posted a second tweet shortly before 5 p.m. saying there was “no credible threat to campus” and telling students and faculty they could resume normal activities.
