A student at Clarkston High School was stabbed on campus during a fight Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The stabbing happened during a physical fight between two students, DeKalb County School District said in a statement. Channel 2 Action News reported that the student was stabbed in the chest around the time of dismissal.

“The safety and well-being of our students remains a top priority,” the district said.

The victim ran off campus to a nearby apartment complex and was being treated by EMS when he was found by officers, the district said. He was taken to a hospital. His name was not released.

The suspect is in custody while DeKalb County School police continue investigating.
