A 10-week-old baby boy allegedly beaten by his father has died, Gwinnett County police said Tuesday.

The newborn sustained skull fractures and other head injuries and was in critical condition, but died Sunday from his injuries.

The baby’s father Kelvin Lewis Odom, 50, was arrested early Thursday and charged with cruelty to children in the first degree, jail records showed. Police were called to Odom’s Lawrenceville-area apartment, in the Water Vistas complex off Club Drive, earlier in the week, Channel 2 Action News reported.

No information was released on what investigators found in the apartment, nor on the baby’s mother. Odom’s arrest warrant said the baby had skull fractures and several other head injuries. The baby was taken in critical condition to the hospital, where he died. An autopsy was planned for Tuesday.

Odom was being held without bond Tuesday in the Gwinnett jail, records showed.
