A metro Atlanta animal rescue organization hopes someone will come forward with information after the group’s van was stolen.

Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters said the van was taken Wednesday night from the parking lot of its Johns Creek thrift store on Nesbitt Ferry Road.

“The loss of this van is a heartbreak for us and a significant blow to our organization,” Furkids founder and CEO Samantha Shelton said. “It is so upsetting that someone would take a valuable asset from a nonprofit organization that has been serving the community for 18 years.”

The organization said the van is a “critical part of its lifesaving work.” It is used to pick up and deliver donated merchandise to four Furkids thrift stores, two animal shelters and several adoption centers in metro Atlanta.

Anyone with information on the theft of a van with Georgia license plate RHP8476 is asked to contact Johns Creek police.

“Meanwhile, Furkids is appealing to the community to help fund a new van, since insurance coverage is not adequate to cover all costs to replace the van,” the nonprofit said.

Donations can be made online at the Furkids website.
