Authorities investigated a deadly wreck in Clayton County that shut down I-675 for more than seven hours Tuesday afternoon.

All southbound lanes of I-675 reopened in Clayton County overnight after authorities cleared the scene of a deadly two-vehicle crash.

The interstate was closed south of Ga. 42 about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and did not reopen until just before 11:30 p.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

One person was killed when a sedan and a pickup truck went off the roadway and crashed into some woods near Rex, Clayton County police said. The sedan became trapped underneath the truck.

The driver of the truck ran from the scene after the crash and has not been located Wednesday morning, according to police.

While few details have been released, police spokeswoman Sgt. Julia Isaac said the wreck was not the result of a police pursuit. The victim was not identified.

A resulting investigation and manhunt shut down I-675 for more than seven hours Tuesday. During the closure, southbound drivers were being forced off the interstate at Ga. 42 and clogging up surface streets heading back to I-675, the Traffic Center reported.
