A Newnan High School student died in a car accident Monday afternoon, officials said.

John David Yates Goodall, 16, was attempting to cross Ga. 16 from Wagers Mill Road about 1:20 p.m. when a northbound Dodge Durango T-boned the right side of his Toyota Celica, according to a Georgia State Patrol report obtained Wednesday by AJC.com. The Toyota came to an uncontrolled stop about 140 feet north of the collision, the report said.

The teen suffered blunt force injuries, Coweta County coroner Richard Hawk said.

Goodall was taken to the Piedmont Newnan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It was not immediately clear if the driver of the Durango, identified in the report as Charles Brinson of Douglasville, was injured in the crash.

According to the GSP report, the driver of a box truck in front of Goodall said the Toyota stopped before entering the intersection and getting hit.

Investigators did not observe any skid marks to show the Dodge attempted to stop before the collision. They believe the box truck obstructed the views of both Goodall and Brinson.

No one has been charged in connection with the incident.

In a tweet, Newnan High School principal Chase Puckett asked for prayers for Goodall’s family.

Goodall was on the Newnan High School wrestling team, according to a GoFundMe page set up to raise $10,000 for the family. As of Wednesday afternoon, donors had raised a more than $4,000.

A funeral will be held at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel at 3 p.m. Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the start of the service.
