One person was killed in Buckhead early Friday morning when a vehicle hit a brick mailbox and flipped on its roof.

Officers were called to the scene of the accident on West Paces Ferry Road near Randall Mill Road around 3:40 a.m., Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty told AJC.com.

“Upon arrival, officers observed that the vehicle appeared to have left the roadway, struck a brick mailbox and overturned,” he said.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, died as a result of their injuries. The driver is not being identified until the family can be notified, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office.

Daugherty said it appears speed played a factor in the crash.

West Paces Ferry Road was closed for a time Friday morning while police investigated, but it has since reopened, he said.
