A wreck in Habersham County sent two people to the hospital.

A head-on collision in Habersham County required both drivers to be extricated and removed from the vehicles, authorities said.

The accident took place on Ga. 115 westbound near Habersham Mills Road, according to a Habersham County Emergency Services news release.

A 2004 Kia Optima was allegedly traveling westbound on the wrong side of the road, causing a head-on wreck with an oncoming 2007 Chevy Tahoe, Georgia State Patrol said. Witnesses told GSP the Kia had allegedly passed another vehicle on a double yellow line stretch of Ga. 115 and continued driving in the wrong lane.

The driver of the Kia, Blaine Weaver, 29, of Demorest, was seriously injured, GSP said. The driver of the Chevy, Deborah Cook, 56, of Cornelia, was moderately injured.

One driver required a rear window to be broken for first responders to remove him or her, the Habersham EMS release said. It took 45 minutes to get the other driver out because of the condition of the vehicle and the person’s injuries.

Both people were taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, the release said. One had to be airlifted.

Habersham County Emergency Services, Demorest Fire, Herbsham County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol responded to the accident.

The Georgia State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident. Charges are pending, GSP said.
