A Gainesville man is in jail after he allegedly shot a man in the jaw at a homeless encampment.

Necko Romane Jackson, 41, is accused of shooting another 41-year-old man about 10 p.m. Sunday near Westside Drive in Gainesville, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said Tuesday in a news release.

Bystanders helped the injured man get to a gas station at the corner of Pearl Nix Parkway and Browns Bridge Road and called 911, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and later flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

The circumstances that led to the shooting are not clear.

Deputies arrested Jackson about 10:45 a.m. Monday at a home in the 1000 block of East Ridge Road, Booth said. He allegedly tried to run away as they were making the arrest.

Jackson is being held in the Hall County Jail without bond on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and obstruction.
