Investigators are looking into a crash that left one person dead and another in the hospital with serious injuries Wednesday morning.

Cobb County police said Gerard Smith, 56, of Marietta, died at the scene after a car veered into his lane and collided with the front of his car. Smith was driving a red 2008 Buick Lucerne and was traveling east on South Cobb Drive east of Barclay Circle, authorities said.

Investigators said a white 2015 Kia Soul was traveling west and crossed into oncoming traffic. The driver of the Kia, Kadijah Miller, 24, of Marietta, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries.

The wreck blocked all lanes of South Cobb Drive west of Dobbins Air Reserve Base for nearly three hours while authorities investigated, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported. The scene was cleared just after 9 a.m.
