A man will serve 15 years in prison after a 2017 armed robbery at a Woodstock gas station where he pointed a shotgun at a clerk’s head, authorities said.

Travis Cooper, 22, of Woodstock, was sentenced Friday after a jury found him guilty of all four of his charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and theft by taking, according to a news release from the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office.

In September 2017, Cooper entered a RaceTrac in a disguise, pointed a gun at a clerk’s head and stole money from the cash register before leaving the gas station, the release said.

Using a K-9 unit and the defendant’s dropped phone, police located and arrested Cooper in his Alta Ridgewalk apartment, the release said.

Cooper was tried on June 20, when jurors found him guilty after an hour of deliberation, according to the release. More than 100 pieces of evidence were presented in court.

Following his prison time, Cooper will spend five years on probation, according to Judge David Cannon, Jr.’s sentencing. Cooper could have received a reduced sentence had he accepted responsibility, but didn’t, according to the release.

The judge also said that Cooper will not be permitted to contact the victims, must forfeit the firearm he used in the armed robbery, must stay away from all RaceTrac locations and must have a psychological evaluation, according to the release.
