Gwinnett County police ruled a shooting at Pinckneyville Park as a suicide Monday.

About 10 a.m., a landscaper found a middle-aged man's body in a ditch at the park, located at 4758 South Old Peachtree Road in Berkeley Lake near Norcross, police spokesman Jay Brewer said in a news release.

“A backpack and firearm were located near the body,” which was next to a pavilion near the baseball fields, Brewer said.

Initially, police believed it was a homicide scene. They determined later Monday that the gunshot wounds were self-inflicted.

The park reopened Monday afternoon after being closed for five hours, Channel 2 Action News reported.
