Tennessee’s department of public health has announced its second presumptive case in Nashville’s Davidson County, bringing the state’s total number of cases to eight.
The Metro Public Health Department announced Wednesday that the new case was uncovered, pending Center for Disease Control and Prevention testing and confirmation, according to NewsChannel 5. The first case in Davidson County was announced on Sunday, March 8.
Health officials say Wednesday’s case is an adult male, who has had mild symptoms. He remains isolated at home. The team will investigate the source of the virus and survey those who have been in close contact with the patient.
“Receiving confirmation of an additional case was expected and we are prepared to quickly investigate and provide guidance to those determined to be close contacts to prevent potential spread to others,” Dr. Michael Caldwell, Director of Health for Nashville/Davidson County, told the news station.
“Our guidance to the community remains the same; everyone should continue to take steps to protect themselves and others by following routine health precautions.”
Officials are expected to have another update at 3 p.m. EDT
According to WKRN news reporter Josh Breslow, there are now two cases in Davidson County, five cases in Williamson County, one in Shelby County and one in Sullivan County.
