A mother is now facing vehicular homicide charges after police say she caused a crash that killed her sister, teen daughter and another teenager, Channel 2 Action News reported.

South Fulton police said Doreen Carter’s Chevrolet Impala collided with a train on Buffington Road and Roosevelt Highway after she tried to beat it on July 30.

Carter’s sister, Lidonda Carter, 40, and her daughter, Santan'ia McDowell, 18, were killed along with her daughter’s friend, 15-year-old Mackenzie Mack. Carter’s injuries were not life-threatening.

A witness, Shadari Jett, told the news station that the crossing arms were down and the train’s horn was blaring as Carter approached the tracks.

After the crash, police said charges were pending due to an investigation.

It was not clear Wednesday afternoon if Carter had surrendered.

The crash killed three women.
