Gwinnett County police are searching for a shooting suspect who killed a man Wednesday morning during an argument outside an extended stay motel near Lilburn.

Officers responded to the shooting in the parking lot of the Home Stay Suites along Stone Mountain Highway about 11:20 a.m. They found one man dead, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Ryan Winderweedle said in a news release.

“Witnesses on scene said an argument occurred between two males, resulting in one male being shot,” Winderweedle said.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and brought in a K-9 to search for the suspect, but he hasn’t been located. The suspect has dreadlocks, is about 5-foot-11 and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing plaid shorts and a green shirt, but could be shirtless, police said.

The victim’s name and age have not been released, and it’s still unclear what prompted the argument that led to his death.

The manhunt prompted school officials to delay dismissal for students at nearby Shiloh High, Shiloh Middle and Shiloh Elementary schools, the Gwinnett County School District said in a Facebook post.

Dismissal was delayed for about 30 minutes as police searched for the suspect. All three schools have since been cleared to send students home for the afternoon, officials said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Gwinnett detectives at 770-513-5300. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for a cash reward, by contacting Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
