Police on Monday released photos of a man whose burned body was found last week near a busy Gwinnett County intersection.

The photos show 47-year-old Raul Zapata-Garcia in the hours before he died. Detectives distributed the photos “in hopes that someone recognizes him and can provide information on the case,” Gwinnett police said in a Twitter post.

A man called 911 about 11:30 a.m. July 20 after finding the body in the woods near the intersection of Satellite Boulevard and West Liddell Road in Duluth, a Gwinnett police spokesperson confirmed to AJC.com. It was located between a Marathon gas station and a neighboring apartment complex. Arson investigators were contacted.

Investigators found that Zapata-Garcia’s burned body had been shot at least once and classified the investigation as a homicide.

Police have not determined the cause of death or identified any suspects.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call police.
