Boston Marathon canceled after mayor calls it ‘not feasible this year’
The global coronavirus pandemic has claimed another sporting event this year: the annual Boston Marathon.
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said Thursday afternoon that holding the event during the ongoing public health crisis is “not feasible.”
Boston Marathon "not feasible this year," says Walsh. An "alternative approach" will let runners "participate remotely."

The pandemic also has caused another one of the world’s premier road races, the AJC Peachtree Road Race, to be moved to Thanksgiving rather than the Fourth of July.
Every major professional sports league in the world has been affected by the pandemic, including the multibillion-dollar National Football League, Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Hockey League and the NBA.
