An Atlanta rapper was taken into custody by Sandy Springs police Friday after a chase ended in a crash into two patrol vehicles on Ga. 400, authorities said.

Ibnisa Durr, 25, who performs as rapper Paper Lovee, was wanted on a charge of aggravated assault in a May shooting at a southeast Atlanta convenience store, police said. On Friday morning, Atlanta police tracked Durr to an apartment in Sandy Springs and asked for help when he sped away in a high-end BMW around 10 a.m., according to police in that city.

After they attempted to stop the vehicle on Ga. 400 near Hammond Drive, police said Durr crashed into two patrol units, one of which had a K-9 inside. The police dog was not injured, but an officer was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for a head injury, according to Sandy Springs police spokesman Sgt. Sal Ortega.

As an unsigned artist, Paper Lovee boasts more than 250,000 followers on Instagram. He was previously signed to 300 Entertainment and had just released a new single Friday morning, which he had been promoting on Instagram hours before the crash.

Police dash camera footage released Friday afternoon of the pursuit appeared to show Durr’s black BMW with blue accents and butterfly doors speeding away from officers until he crashed. Several motorists packed the shoulder of Ga. 400 during the pursuit.

As soon as Durr crashed, police boxed him in. The footage then shows him climbing out of his car and throwing something into the air. Ortega said Durr got out of the car with a gun in hand. Officers were quickly able to get Durr on the ground, but a struggle ensued while trying to disarm and arrest him, Ortega said.

We want to make it clear that despite the serious charges he’s facing in Atlanta, if someone commits a crime in our city, or endangers our residents, injures our officers, and damages our property, we will prosecute them with everything we have and then hand them over to the outside agency that also wants them,” Ortega told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Durr has been charged with obstruction of law enforcement, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and fleeing and attempting to elude officers in the Sandy Springs incident.

The Atlanta shooting was reported around 7 p.m. May 30 in the 2000 block of Alison Court. According to a police report released Friday, responding Atlanta police officers found a 25-year-old man suffering from several gunshot wounds. The victim was breathing when police arrived and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

A witness told officers several people jumped in when an argument turned into a physical fight outside the Neighborhood Discount Grocery, and shots were fired, according to the report. Six shell casings were recovered by police at the scene.

Durr was later identified as a suspect, Atlanta police confirmed. He was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and aggravated assault in the May shooting.

He has a long history of arrests in Fulton County dating to 2013. He was most recently released from custody in November 2019 following a probation violation, online jail records show.

Durr was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Friday afternoon.
