Authorities were searching Saturday for five inmates, including two murder suspects, who escaped a jail in Pulaski County.
The GBI and the Georgia Department of Public Safety said the five suspects escaped from the Pulaski County Detention Center about 11:15 p.m. Friday in a white 2015 Kia Sedona van. The van, which they stole from the jail parking lot, has a Georgia license tag reading CMP8628, the agencies said.
Hawkinsville, the city where the detention center is located, is roughly 50 miles south of Macon. Both agencies urged people to not approach the inmates and call 911 if they’re seen. The GBI said they’re in possession of two Tasers.
The suspects include Tyree Williams Jr., Tyree Mantan Jackson, Lewis Wendell Evans III, Brandon Pooler and Dennis Penix Jr. The GBI said all five men have violent histories, adding that two currently face murder charges.
Williams, 33, is charged in a deadly home invasion in July 2020, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Penix, 28, is accused of a deadly double shooting in 2017 during a drug deal, Macon-based news station WGXA reported.
Pooler, 24, is accused of child cruelty, Jackson, 27, is charged with breaking into vehicles and Evans, 22, is accused of obstructing an officer, according to WGXA.
