The boil-water notice for Fairburn residents, in place since Monday, has been lifted, the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management announced Tuesday afternoon.

“Sampling has confirmed there was no contamination of the public water system,” a department news release said.

Damage to a fire hydrant by a third-party contractor prompted the boil-water order, according to a Fairburn city announcement on Monday. The hydrant, near the intersection of Jones Road and Highway 92, is on a 24-inch main water line. Damage caused water pressure to drop.

In response, the Department of Watershed Management issued the boil-water order “out of an abundance of caution.” Officials also asked water customers to limit water use until system pressure is rebuilt.
