She’s only about 7 months old, and she’s wandering around alone outside. If you see her, you might think she’s a baby cow, her owner says.
But “she” is a water buffalo, and she’s been on the run since late Saturday, when she ran away from her new home in Barrow County, Charlotte Cates, a farm owner, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“She was brand new and I had her in the stall,” Cates said. “She busted through the door and I guess she got spooked or something.”
And she was off. Because she had just arrived at Wilderness Farm in Auburn, the water buffalo doesn’t even have a name yet, Cates said.
Cates said the animal was spotted Saturday night a mile and a half from home and had crossed Ga. 316 in both directions. But the storms rolled in, likely scaring the animal from returning to its new owners.
“She’s really skittish,” Cates said. “She doesn’t come to you when you call her, that’s for sure.”
The animal hasn’t been spotted Sunday, and Cates is worried about how motorists not seeing her and possibly hitting her.
“That’s the main thing I worry about is that someone’s not going to see her in time,” Cates said. “I want to get her back so badly.”
The baby water buffalo looks almost like a baby cow, Cates said. She has alerted the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Control to be on the lookout and has passed out flyers to neighbors, she said.
