America loves coffee, but it wasn't always this way. The drink first became popular in the United States after the Boston Tea Party, according to PBS. Now, the U.S. coffee market is valued at $48 billion.

WalletHub recently released it's list of "2019's Best Coffee Cities in America," and Atlanta was among the top 15.

The personal finance site determined its results by comparing the 100 most populated U.S. cities across 14 key metrics. These metrics ranged from average spending on coffee per household to coffee shops, coffee houses & cafés per capita to average price of a cappuccino. Each metric was weighted and graded on a 100-point scale.

Seattle, known for coffee, snagged the No. 1 spot with a score of 69.44, followed by New York City with 67.42 and San Francisco with a score of 65.31. Atlanta came in at No. 12 with a score of 47.31.

In honor of National Coffee Day on Sept. 29, WalletHub also compiled a list of the top coffee retailers that will offer deals on this day. Check out the list here.
