TUESDAY’S WEATHER | ‘Get ready for another hot and humid day’

Metro Atlanta is not getting any relief from the heat on Tuesday.

“Get ready for another hot and humid day,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

The high today will top out around 94 degrees in the city, but it’ll feel closer to the triple digits with how high the humidity has been. Areas southwest of the immediate metro area will be under a heat advisory starting at 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. Feels-like temperatures there could reach up to 106 degrees, the National Weather Service warns.

Heat advisories take effect when feels-like temps exceed 105 degrees. The body can’t cool itself efficiently in high humidity, and heatstroke sets in when your body temperature exceeds 103 degrees, which can be deadly.

“Many areas even outside of where we have a heat advisory today, there will be a major heat impact, meaning that if you don’t have access to the air conditioning and you’re sensitive to the heat, you could fall ill,” Deon said. “Check on your elderly relatives, neighbors and make sure that they have someplace cool to go.”

The city of Atlanta has opened one at the Selena Butler Park and Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. The center is located at 98 William Holmes Borders Senior Drive.

“Don’t forget about your pets as well,” Deon said. “Make sure they have plenty of water to drink when outdoors.”

And don’t leave them outside for extended periods during peak heating times.

As for rain, “we are going to find some relief (from the heat), but it’s only going to be far and few between,” Deon said.

Some scattered storms will filter through the area this afternoon and evening, it just won’t be widespread.

Even less rain is expected on Wednesday and none on Thursday. A small chance — just 10% — returns on Friday, and the weekend will bring a 20% chance on both days.

Highs through the end of the week will stay in the low to mid 90s. But remember, with high humidity, it’ll feel hotter.
