Temps reach mid 90s with humidity steadily climbing

It’s going to be another 90-degree day in metro Atlanta on Tuesday.

After a mild morning, highs this afternoon will climb into the mid 90s with the city’s temperature topping out around 94 degrees.

“We’ll keep sunshine and hot afternoons over the next few days,” Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

High temps will climb into the upper 90s on Wednesday and Thursday.

With so many 90-degree days this summer, it’s “one of our hottest on record — sixth hottest on record so far,” meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Record keeping in Atlanta dates back to 1878. Typically, the area sees 47 days with highs in the 90s. This year, we’ve already racked up 60 days in which temperatures have reached or exceeded 90 degrees, and we still have more 90s in the forecast.

Highs on Wednesday and Thursday are expected to climb into the upper 90s. Temps should take a small dip into the low 90s over Labor Day weekend before falling back into the mid 80s for the start of next week.

Rain returns to the forecast on Thursday, too. There is a 20% chance of showers that day. Friday and into the weekend, we’ll keep a 30-40% chance of isolated thunderstorms each day.
