A teen actor best known for his role in the Atlanta-made movie “Baby Driver” died after falling from a moving vehicle, his family confirmed on social media.

Hudson Meek, 16, was critically injured in the Dec. 19 incident, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office in Alabama. The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m., and he died two days later on Saturday. Police in his hometown of Vestavia Hills, just south of Birmingham, are investigating his death, the coroner’s office confirmed.

Meek “sustained blunt force injuries due to a fall to the roadway,” the coroner’s office said. Police have not released details about what happened and did not immediately respond to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s request for more information.

“Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” his family wrote on his Instagram account. “His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.”

Meek’s breakthrough role came in the 2017 action flick set in Atlanta in which he portrayed Young Baby, the younger version of the film’s main character, played by Ansel Elgort. Lily James and Jamie Foxx also starred.

He also played Sirius in the movie “The School Duel” and made appearances in a number of TV shows, including “Genius” and “Legacies,” according to his IMDB profile.

“Hudson was an extraordinary young talent, whose dedication, passion and promise shone brightly within our industry,” said J Pervis Talent Agency, which represented Meek, in a social media post.

“Over the past 10 years, he contributed so much to the spirit of our agency and his loss leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all of us,” the statement read. “Hudson was more than just a talent, he was a source of inspiration and touched so many lives with his enthusiasm, kindness, smile and innate ability to light up a room and never meet a stranger.”

According to his obituary, some of the movies and TV shows Meek had been working on will be released in 2025, though the projects were not named.

“He absolutely loved spending time on set and having the chance to learn the names and stories of every member of the cast and crew,” said his obituary.

In addition to his acting career, Meek was also involved in church groups and played football at Vestavia Hills High School, where he was a sophomore, according to his obituary.

A celebration of life service is planned at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama, at 11:30 a.m. CDT on Dec. 28. A livestream of the service may be watched through the Instagram accounts, @hudsonmeek and @hudson_meek.
