Ballot errors will force Stockbridge residents to vote on two different forms during early voting in the Nov. 7 election.

The county’s elections and voter registration office says Stockbridge residents voting early in the District 2 commissioner race will need to use what is called a “ballot marking device” to select their choice. However, to cast votes in three city council races, they will need to use a provisional ballot.

The extra voting burden is a result of a snafu that occurred prior to the beginning of early voting, Henry County elections officials said. In creating a city council ballot for nearby Hampton, the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office initially told voters to select one candidate from the names listed, when voters actually were to choose three.

“The Secretary of State’s staff and Henry County’s Election and Registration Department were able to correct the City of Hampton’s election ballot,” Henry elections officials said on the office’s website.

But in correcting the Hampton ballot, the state inadvertently separated the Stockbridge city council and Henry Commission races, forcing Stockbridge residents to take extra steps.

As of Monday, just over 1,000 people have cast votes in early voting, according to the elections office website.
