Many metro Atlanta schools are returning from spring break, with students in Atlanta and Fulton County moving to online learning temporarily.
Atlanta, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett school districts resume classes today after a week off for spring break.
Atlanta Public Schools will hold classes online only this week. Officials said the move is a “precautionary step” amid the coronavirus pandemic because a large number of employees and families planned to travel during spring break.
“We ask that those who plan to travel also plan to follow the travel guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), such as getting tested and quarantining,” said Superintendent Lisa Herring, in a recent letter to parents.
APS students learning in-person will return to school buildings on April 19.
All Fulton County Schools students will learn remotely today through Wednesday. Fulton students who opted for face-to-face learning will return to school buildings Thursday.
The Fulton district is holding classes online only for three days to accommodate mass vaccination events, during which employees will receive the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as “to guard against a post spring break surge,” according to a district statement.
Meanwhile, some of Clayton County Public Schools’ youngest students and those with special needs have the option to return to face-to-face learning today for the first time since the pandemic shuttered school buildings last spring. The district will implement a hybrid schedule for those students opting to return starting today.
Cobb County Schools will schedule remote-learning days April 16 and April 23 to allow for employee vaccination events.
