Clayton County Schools Superintendent Morcease Beasley plans to update residents on the south metro Atlanta district’s academic response to the coronavirus.

Beasley will hold YouTube Live at 2 p.m. Tuesday to discuss “critical updates relative to the district initiatives, operations, and COVID-19 response,” the district said recently. The event is one of many Beasley has held over the past 18 months of the pandemic.

The district has temporarily switched to remote learning in at least 20 schools since the beginning of the 2021-2022 academic year in early August. During the return to remote classes, school buildings have been closed for at least three days to separate infected students and faculty from others at the sites as well as to clean the facilities.

The district has recorded 1,239 COVID-19 cases among students and staff since the start of the school year.
