A boil water advisory is in place in parts of Forsyth County on Wednesday and Thursday after crews repaired a broken water main.

The repair work finished Tuesday night along Holtzclaw Road between Pilgrim Mill Road and Holtzclaw Drive, county officials said. But the advisory will be in place until 9:30 p.m. Thursday, unless otherwise noted by the county’s Department of Water and Sewer.

The advisory includes Chattahoochee Road between Holtzclaw Road and Stone Creek Circle. Fire Station 5 and Chattahoochee Elementary School, north of Cumming, are also included.

The school will be open Wednesday, said Forsyth County Schools spokesperson Michele Dugan, in an email to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Dugan said bottled water and hand sanitizer will be available, and “school meals will be provided with some adjustments, including options for prepackaged meals.”

“Any meals that require water will be prepared off site and transported to our school,” she said.

Other streets affected include Poplar Lane, Maple Lane, Forest Circle, Cherry Lane, Dogwood Circle, Southlake Lane, Southlake Drive, Southlake Court, Southlake Circle, Adams Road, Duckcove Way, Lyles Way, Bishops Walk, Reserve Overlook Way, Stone Creek Circle, Brook Drive and Dorothy Drive.

Those who live in the area should boil all water used for drinking, cooking or preparing baby food for at least one full minute after reaching a full boil, officials warned.

Officials said water lines were being flushed and bacteria samples were collected for testing before they issued the advisory.

A boil water advisory is a public health measure that suggests the possibility of bacterial contamination in the water system, making it unsafe to drink tap water without boiling it first, according to the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
