A school bus driver released the pepper spray that sent 10 Maynard Jackson High School students to a local hospital after a Wednesday afternoon fight on the bus, school officials said Thursday.

Two boys got into a fight on the bus, which was outside the school on Glenwood Avenue in southeast Atlanta.

An assistant principal tried to break up the fight, and the bus driver released pepper spray, according to Atlanta Public Schools spokeswoman Kimberly Willis Green.

Green said Thursday morning that the incident was still under review.

Ten students were transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding, where they were treated for exposure to the pepper spray and later released to their families.
