Atlanta police asked for the public’s help again on Friday in solving an ambush in Mechanicsville that left one man dead and his brother seriously wounded.
Nicholas Green, 21, was killed on November 15 when a gray Hyundai pulled up beside the Infinity SUV he was riding in at the intersection of McDaniel and Glenn streets and someone opened fire.
The motive for shooting remains a mystery but detectives believe Green was the intended target, said Lt. Charles Hampton, the homicide squad commander.
“I don’t think it was a case of mistaken identity,” Hampton told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Friday
Bullets also struck Green’s 23-year-old brother Rahmir Melton, who drove to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding where Green died. Neither man had much of a criminal history and Green worked in a barber shop, Hampton said.
He said police located two potential witnesses who are in store video at a nearby Texaco. They are again asking the public to view the video, which is available on the for helping in identifying a third potential witness, Hampton said.
The surveillance footage shows Green outside of the store right before his brother pulled up to pick him up in the Orange SUV. Police hope that the still unidentified third individual shown in the video may have information on the the shooting and what led up to it.
“This is the last time that we know of that our victim was alive,” Hampton said. “We’re asking the community to reach out to us so we can further our investigation.”
